Charles 'Krazy Horse' Bennett Arrested for Attacking Teammate with Steel Rod

According to the Bernalillo County, New Mexico Sheriff's Department website, Charles Bennett aka Krazy Horse was arrested on Monday, January 18, 2010, for allegedly assaulting amateur wrestling stand-out Tyler East. The alleged incident took place two days earlier, on Saturday, January 16, at the FIT NHB gym. Bennett was charged with one count of aggravated battery with grievous bodily harm, which is a second degree felony.

Sherdog spoke via e-mail to FIT NHB representative Tom Vaughn, who described the incident.
During routine sparring, tempers flared between Charles and the other fighter, and Charles ended up getting dropped by the larger training partner. They were quickly broken up and Charles left the mat, got dressed and left the building. He returned about 15 minutes later, walked down to the training area and pulled out a heavy piece of steel he must have found in the parking lot and began attacking the other fighter (from behind) with intent to do serious damage. He was tackled by two other fighters and disarmed.
Bennett had been training at FIT NHB gym on and off for the past 6 months, but as could be expected, will no longer be welcomed back to the gym. Bennett is 30 years old and is a veteran of 40 MMA fights, many of which took place in King of the Cage. He has always been a controversial figure in MMA, using his notoriety to his advantage, and has made it onto fight cards for PRIDE and EliteXC, where he scored KO wins over Yoshiro Maeda and KJ Noons, respectively.

Bennett's crazy antics, which earned him his nickname, are described in his Wikipedia entry:
Bennett is known for his cocky arrogance, often playing to the camera, insulting other fighters, and even disrespecting the referee, both during interviews and in the ring. One of his trademark moves is to sit atop of the corner ropes after the opening bell rings, and attempt to double push kick his opponent as he rushes in. He is also known for jumping up on the cage during and after fights.
Bennett has had multiple run-ins with the law, including possession and sale of cocaine convictions in 2000, and assault and false imprisonment charges in 2007. Before this latest arrest, Bennett was arrested for a domestic dispute in 2008, of which he still faces charges including strangulation of a pregnant woman.

With this latest incident, which had multiple witnesses, combined with his previous criminal history and outstanding alleged criminal behavior, it appears that the Krazy Horse will finally be put down. He's likely facing some serious prison time. Bennett is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
