Welcome to the Madman Roundtable for UFC FIGHT NIGHT 24: NOGUEIRA VS DAVIS on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington. The main card will air live on Spike TV starting at 10:00 pm EST. Five preliminary bouts will stream live on Facebook.com/UFC starting at 7:30 pm EST.
TITAN FC 17: LASHLEY VS OTT was held Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Historic Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. The main card aired live on HDNet.
In the main event, former WWE superstar Bobby "The Dominator" Lashley used his significant size and strength advantage to put a monumental beating on John Ott in the first round, but Lashley was unable to finish his smaller opponent in the referee's eyes. The fight arguably could've been stopped when Lashley had Ott on the ground pounding away at his face, but bruised and battered, Ott was able to hang on until the round ended.
For the final two rounds, Bobby Lashley was breathing incredibly heavily through his mouth and was just too exhausted to do anything beside take John Ott to the mat and hold him there. The heavyweight Lashley was an accomplished amateur wrestler and Ott is a more natural middleweight fighter, so once Lashley was able to get a hold of Ott, the takedowns were elementary. Ott, still with gas left in his tank, made a late surge, but Lashley was just too big and powerful for him. Lashley has a million dollar physique but it comes at the cost of any semblance of lasting cardio. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lashley return to pro wrestling after yet another miserable MMA performance.
BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 38 will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 (3/26/11) at Harrah's Tunica Hotel and Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. The main card will air live on MTV2 starting at 6:00 pm EST.
UNITED GLORY 2010-2011 MMA WORLD SERIES: ROUND TWO - SURVIVAL was held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Spiroudome in Charleroi, Wallonia, Belgium. United Glory is the fight promotion arm of the famed Golden Glory gym. This event featured both MMA and kickboxing bouts. All of the MMA bouts ended in the first round.
In the United Glory Welterweight Tournament semifinals, Golden Glory fighter Tommy "Scarface" Depret defeated former UFC fighter Roan "Jucao" Carneiro by first round submission and Afghani fighter Siyar "The Great" Bahadurzada, also a product of Golden Glory, scored a first round TKO victory over former UFC and WEC fighter John "The Natural" Alessio.
Xtreme Couture's John Alessio came into this fight riding a 7-fight winning streak and recently had to turn down an offer to return to the UFC because of his contractual commitment to this tournament. Now that he's lost, Alessio is going to have to start all over again in an attempt to string together enough wins to get another UFC callback.
UFC 128: SHOGUN VS JONES was held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The main card aired live on PPV. Three preliminary bouts aired on Spike TV (2 live and 1 via tape delay) and 2 preliminary bouts streamed live on Facebook.com/UFC.
In the main event, at just 23 years of age, Jon "Bones" Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history with a TKO victory over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. In his entire 8-fight UFC career, Jones has yet to even find himself in a perilous situation in the Octagon. Jones is an extraordinary athlete whose rise to the top has been unparalleled in MMA history. Jones will attempt to defend his title for the first time against his now-former training partner "Suga" Rashad Evans.
In the co-main event, WEC poster boy Urijah "The California Kid" Faber made a successful transition into the UFC with a decision victory over Eddie Wineland. Faber struggled in the first round against Wineland, but came back strong in the final two rounds to get the judges' nod on all 3 scorecards. Faber will likely next coach on The Ultimate Fighter 14 opposite UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and then fight for the 135-pound title afterward.
BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS XXXVII was held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Oklahoma. The main card aired live on MTV2 and featured the 4 Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal bouts.
In the main event, Patricio "Pitbull" Freire joined his lightweight brother, Patricky Freire, as a Bellator Season 4 tournament semifinalist. Patricky advanced to the 155-pound semifinals last week. This week, Patricio knocked out former professional soccer player Georgi "Insane" Karakhanyan to advance to the 145-pound semifinals.
In the co-main event, Wilson Reis choked out Zac "The Red Devil" George. Also advancing to the semifinals were Daniel Straus and Kenny "The Tooth Fairy" Foster. Straus won a decision over the previously undefeated Argentinean Nazareno "Naza" Malegarie and Foster scored a huge upset win over NCAA Division I wrestling champion Eric Larkin.
The UFC awarded a total of $280,000 in bonus money to 4 fighters for performances at UFC 128: SHOGUN VS JONES, held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
After every UFC event, Zuffa officials pay out bonuses to fighters based on exceptional performances. These bonuses are paid in addition to the contracted salary or fighter purse of each honored athlete.
KSW XV: REVENGE was held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Torwar Hall in Warsaw, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland.
Former UFC fighter James "The Sandman" Irvin was recently suspended by the California State Athletic Commission for one year due to testing positive for a livestock steroid. Since Poland doesn't have an athletic commission and Irvin doesn't give a flying f-ck, The Sandman defied the orders of the CSAC and accepted a fight with Mamed Khalidov at KSW 15 after both Matt Lindland and Thales Leites pulled out of the main event due to injuries. Irvin now risks further sanctioning by the CSAC and the possibility of not being able to get relicensed to fight again in the United States. Irvin's rebellion didn't last long, however, as he tapped out to an armbar by Khalidov in just 33 seconds. Irvin is now a pathetic 1-5-1 in his last 7 fights.
