CFFC 9 RESULTS: John Cholish Submits Jameel Massouh at BEACH BRAWL in Atlantic City, New Jersey on 6/10/11

CAGE FURY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP 9: BEACH BRAWL was held Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

In the main event, Renzo Gracie and John Danaher protégé John Cholish submitted former WEC featherweight Jameel "The Sergeant" Massouh to win the vacant CFFC Lightweight Championship. Cholish, who was coming off a submission win in Strikeforce over TUF 12 alum Marc Stevens, was originally scheduled to face Russian fighter Mikhail Malyutin.

Jameel Massouh stepped up as a late replacement (and moved up a weight class) after Malyutin withdrew due to illness. After losing the first round to Massouh, Cholish dropped The Sergeant with a big overhand right in the second round and followed him to the ground, where Cholish finished off Massouh with a guillotine choke.

OMMAC 10: STEP IN THE ARENA was held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Liverpool Olympia in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. The original main event of James Doolan vs Vaughn Lee was canceled after Doolan broke his hand.

Ali Arish and Wayne "Mayhem" Murrie instead took center stage in the replacement main event. The Iranian-born wrestler Arish had put together a 10-fight winning streak before running into a Jack Hermansson headkick at Cage Warriors 41. Arish rebounded from the loss to the Joachim Hansen-trained fighter by knocking out Murrie.

In the co-main event, Next Generation UK featherweight Chris Fishgold improved his record to 5-0 with a quick submission win over late replacement Danny Welsh, who has now lost more fights in a row than Fishgold has won.

In the main event, light heavyweight Glover Teixeira, who KO'd Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in the WEC, knocked out Simao Melo, a late replacement MMA-debuting fighter. There are no athletic commissions that oversee MMA in Brazil, thus this complete mismatch that resulted in an inevitable knockout. In pro wrestling, they call this kind of thing a squash match. In Shooto Brazil, they call it an MMA main event.

RINGSIDE MMA 11: COTE VS BROWN was held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Pepsi Coliseum (formerly Le Colisee) in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

At the weigh-ins on Friday, headlining fighters Patrick "The Predator" Cote and Todd "Bulldog" Brown had to be pulled apart after having words and shoving each other. Before the tussle was fully squashed, Cote managed to get in a cheap shot in the form of a slap.

Both former UFC fighters were looking to use this fight a stepping stone to get back to the UFC. Originally Todd Brown was supposed to drop down to middleweight from light heavyweight to fight Patrick Cote, however, Brown's camp ended up asking for a 190-pound catchweight fight instead and Cote obliged. After all the hoopla, Cote won a rather anticlimactic clean sweep unanimous decision over Brown.

In the main event, one-time Bellator fighter Aisling "Ais the Bash" Daly won the NAAFS Women's Flyweight Championship with a second-round rear-naked choke submission victory over the previously unbeaten Jessica "Evil" Eye. Daly traveled across the pond from Ireland to challenge Eye, a local Ohio fighter.
