KOTC: FIRST DEFENSE - Jared Papazian Successfully Defends King of the Cage 135-Pound Title in San Bernardino 9/15/11

KING OF THE CAGE: FIRST DEFENSE was held Thursday, September 15, 2011, at the San Manuel Casino in San Bernardino, California.

In the main event, Jared "The Jackhammer" Papazian put his KOTC Flyweight Championship on the line for the first time against local undefeated fighter Marvin Garcia. King of the Cage does not have a featherweight division, so their flyweight division is competed at 135-pounds, which is normally bantamweight. The championship fight went the distance, with 2 judges seeing the contest very close with 48-47 scores, and once judge scoring the fight 50-45, all for Papazian. The San Bernardino crowd was none too pleased with this decision that went against their hometown fighter, and booed Papazian out of the cage after a very brief post-fight interview.

The Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC) has released the following salary payout figures for STRIKEFORCE: BARNETT VS KHARITONOV, held Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati.

AMAZON FOREST COMBAT 1 RESULTS: Masakatsu Ueda Retires Royler Gracie, Ronys Torres Makes a Statement - 9/14/11

The inaugural AMAZON FOREST COMBAT (AFC I) was held Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the Amadeu Teixeira Gymnasium in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.

In the main event, 45-year-old Royler Gracie, brother of UFC legend Royce Gracie, lost in his retirement match to Masakatsu Ueda. While the decision was split, the fight was not close. And it wasn't supposed to be. Royler Gracie was not expected to be able to compete with Ueda, currently one of the very best fighters in Japan. Gracie's last MMA fight was nearly half a decade ago. This was more of a passing-the-torch kind of fight, but the judges nearly ruined the ceremony with their bobbling of the handoff.

In the main event, Romario Manoel "Junior Killer" Da Silva won a clean sweep unanimous decision over Jaime "El Cucui" Jara. The former EliteXC fighter Jara does not have good luck when his fights go the distance. The last four times Jara has went to a decision, he's lost, and twice by split decision. Jara's last decision win was 3 years ago in EliteXC, a split decision victory over current Bellator fighter Giva "The Arm Collector" Santana.

In the co-main event, former UFC middleweight Rob "The Rosedale Reaper" Kimmons quickly submitted veteran fighter "Rough" Chuck Parmelee.

BELLATOR 49 RESULTS: Ben Saunders, Douglas Lima, Luis Sapo and Chris Lozano Advance to Semifinals - 9/10/11

BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 49 was held Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event served as the fifth season premiere. The main card aired live on MTV2, and the undercard streamed live on Spike.com, the Spike TV website, which is a sign of things to come given Spike will no longer be featuring new UFC programming after this year due to the UFC signing a new television contract with Fox.

In the quarterfinals of the Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament, Chris "The Cleveland Assassin" Lozano, Ben "Killa B" Saunders, Luis "Sapo" Santos and Douglas "The Phenom" Lima advanced to the semifinals. Former UFC fighter Saunders was the only 170-pound fighter to finish his opening round fight. Brent Weedman and Dan "The Handler" Hornbuckle were favorites on the betting lines, and were upset by Lozano and Sapo, respectively.

STRIKEFORCE: BARNETT VS KHARITONOV RESULTS: Barnett and Cormier Advance, Luke Rockhold Shocks the World - 9/10/11

STRIKEFORCE WORLD GRAND PRIX: BARNETT VS KHARITONOV was held Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The main card aired live on Showtime.

In the top two fights, the semifinals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, Josh "The Warmaster" Barnett and Daniel "DC" Cormier both advanced to the finals of the tournament with first-round victories. Catch wrestler Barnett submitted Sergei Kharitonov with a side choke, and Olympic wrestler Cormier surprisingly knocked out Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva. Barnett and Cormier will fight for the tournament crown in early 2012.

Luke Rockhold, coming off a 19-month layoff due to injuries, likely earned himself 2011 Comeback Fighter of the Year honors with a unanimous decision victory over Ronald "Jacare" Souza for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship. While one judge scored every single round for Rockhold, the other two judges' 48-47 scorecards more accurately represented the fight. Rockhold displayed excellent takedown defense and outworked Jacare in the striking department to earn the approval of the judges and a shiny new belt.
