BAMMA USA: BAD BEAT 4 was held Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California. Seemingly appropriate for an event being held on Friday the 13th, the main event had to be canceled at the last minute.
Former UFC lightweight Gabe "Godzilla" Ruediger was supposed to fight in the main event, however, his opponent Musa Toliver, who took the fight on less than a week's notice, suffered a rib injury while training and pulled out of the fight on Friday. Toliver had originally replaced Brandon Anderson, who actually fought on this card, but was rejected by the California State Athletic Commission as opponent for Ruediger. As Ruediger himself put it on his Facebook page, "The commission pulled anderson because he is bad. He fought last night...and got tapped by 6-19 bobby sanchez."
In the makeshift main event, undefeated bantamweights Chris "The Real Deal" Beal and Jimmy "Rabbit" Jones squared off. After 3 rounds, Sherdog had the fight scored clearly for Jones, but local fighter Beal was instead awarded a split decision victory. Judges Stephen Davis and Abe Belardo saw the fight 29-28 for Beal, while Judge Luis Cobian wrote a dissenting opinion with his 30-27 scorecard for Jones.
Local stand-outs Mike Jasper and Jack "The Outlaw" May both scored TKO victories to improve their undefeated rookie records.
In the fight game, one man's tragedy is another man's opportunity. With the CSAC not allowing Brandon Anderson to fight Gabe Ruediger, Bobby "The Kid" Sanchez was able to break his dreadful 11-fight losing streak with an opening-minute submission victory over Anderson. This is Sanchez's first win in over 3 years.
