UFC ON FX 1 RESULTS: Jim Miller Taps Out Melvin Guillard, Pat Barry KO's Christian Morecraft - 1/20/12 in Nashville, TN

UFC ON FX 1: GUILLARD VS MILLER was held Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The main card aired live on FX, and the undercard aired live on FUEL TV.

Jim Miller capped off a solid night of fights with a Submission of the Night victory over Melvin Guillard. From our UFC ON FX 1 BONUSES article:
Submission of the Night went to Jim Miller for his first-round rear-naked choke tapout victory over Melvin Guillard, a fighter with exceptional athleticism and dynamite in his hands, but with one of the lowest fight IQs in the UFC. Nine out of ten of Guillard's losses have been by submission. Against a master technician like Jim Miller, Guillard simply got outwitted. Having been on the cusp of lightweight title contention after a 5-fight winning streak, Guillard is now in the midst of a career meltdown with back-to-back losses.
Josh Neer continued his Stockton-approved career resurgence with a first-round chokeout of fellow scrappy veteran Duane "Bang" Ludwig. Neer is a lot like Ludwig, but with a much better submission game, as was evident here with Neer choking out Bang before he was able to tap out.

Mike "The Hulk" Easton and Jared "The Jackhammer" Papazian put on the Madman Fight of the Night, but not the official UFC Fight of the Night, which went to big men Pat "HD" Barry and Christian Morecraft.

Mike Easton and Jared Papazian took it to each other for 15 minutes. An excellent display of cardiovascular wonder in the form of brute violence, this bantamweight ballyhoo began and ended with hockey-style clinched head-bashing. Both fighters put in a grueling night of work, but Easton is a just an absolute beast at 135-pounds. He's an incredibly intelligent and poised fighter, a embodiment of the aura of Master Lloyd Irvin. Easton won a clear decision despite Papazian's spirited performance.

Pat Barry showed off his improved grappling game against Christian Morecraft, fending off the 6-foot-6 giant, who had Barry mounted twice and nearly caught in a fight-ending armbar. The 5-foot-11 Barry eventually escaped all of his perils, and knocked out the goliath Morecraft with a left hook and an atom bomb of a right fist.

UFC veteran Jorge "El Conquistador" Rivera announced his retirement from MMA before his fight with Eric "Red" Schafer. "It's time to go. I'm starting to feel like that old man in the club trying to pick up chicks. It gets a little creepy after a while," Rivera told MMAjunkie Radio. As fate would have it, Rivera won his retirement fight and can now deservingly retire with peace of mind. Rivera won more fights than he lost in the UFC, and he always put on a good show in the Octagon. Rivera was a cream of the crop gatekeeper in the UFC, unlikely to be a UFC Hall of Famer, but he'll be remembered as a legend nevertheless.

Russian lightweight Khabib "The Eagle" Nurmagomedov and Texan featherweight Daniel "The Pit" Pineda both made successful UFC debuts with submission victories. Nick "The Ninja of Love" Denis unleashed a furious flurry of hell-bows unto the head of Joseph Sandoval to make the most impressive UFC debut of the night.

The UFC-returning Fabricio "Morango" Camoes handed the UFC-debuting Tommy "Wild Card" Hayden his first career defeat. Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman solidified his UFC roster spot with a dominant decision win over Daniel "Ninja" Roberts, who will likely vanish from the UFC ranks now with his third consecutive loss.
