UFC 154: St-Pierre vs Condit, held Saturday, November 17, 2012, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The event was headlined by UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre vs UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit.
After every UFC event, Zuffa officials pay out bonuses to fighters based on exceptional performances. These bonus payouts are made in addition to the contracted salary or fighter purse.
The welterweight headliners took home the awards for Fight of the Night. Georges "Rush" St. Pierre successfully defended his 170-pound title in a thrilling 5-round affair with Carlos "Natural Born Killer" Condit. Coming off an 18-month layoff due a career-threatening knee injury, St. Pierre returned to championship form against Condit, who spent most of the fight bloodied and having to fight off of his back.
Carlos Condit landed a picture-perfect headkick in the third round that dropped GSP, but Condit was unable to finish the champ with an ensuing ground assault. The last time Georges St. Pierre lost, and the last time he was hurt this bad, was over half a decade ago due to a Matt Serra headkick. GSP mustering up the resiliency to avoid that same fate, and then actually going on to win the rest of the fight on the scorecards, sealed the deal on a remarkable comeback story.
Knockout of the Night was awarded to co-main eventer Johny "Bigg Rigg" Hendricks for his 46-second KO of fellow top welterweight contender Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann. The dynamic wrestler Hendricks proved himself to be one of the hardest hitting fighters in all of MMA, now with knockout victories over Martin Kampmann and Jon Fitch in less than a minute combined.
Submission of the Night was awarded to MMA veteran Ivan Menjivar for his undercard victory over the UFC-debuting Azamat Gashimov. Taken to the ground early by Gashimov, Menjivar patiently worked from his back waiting for an opening. When it came, Menjivar threw up his legs and locked on a fight-ending belly-down armbar.
