RFA 2 RESULTS: Gilbert Yvel, Mo Smith and Tara LaRosa Represent Old School MMA with Wins in Kearney, Nebraska - 3/30/12
Resurrection Fighting Alliance held RFA 2: Yvel vs Alexander on Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney, NE. The event streamed live on Sherdog.com with an interesting and offbeat commentary team of Mauro Ranallo, Jens Pulver and Justin McCully.
With nearly 50 years of combined professional mixed martial arts experience between the three of them, Muay-Thai-in-MMA godfather Gilbert "The Hurricane" Yvel; old school UFC fighter and 20-year MMA veteran Maurice "Mo" Smith; and women's MMA pioneer Tara LaRosa each added another victory to their career totals.
Gilbert Yvel knocked out former UFC fighter and single father-of-six Houston "The Assassin" Alexander in spectacular fashion. But nothing could match the highlight reel headkick knockout victory scored by 50-year-old Mo Smith over Jorge Cordoba, a much less experienced fighter who'd been thrown to the wolves. Cordoba proved to be an incredibly game opponent, however, and a very good sport.
BELLATOR 63 RESULTS: Karl Amoussou, Ben Saunders, Bryan Baker and David Rickels Advance in Tourney - 3/30/12
Bellator Fighting Championships held Bellator 63: Lozano vs Amoussou on Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The main card aired live on MTV2 and EPIX2 in HD. The entire card also streamed live on Spike.com.
Karl "Psycho" Amoussou, Bryan "The Beast" Baker, David "The Caveman" Rickels and Ben "Killa B" Saunders advanced to the semifinals of the Bellator Season 6 Welterweight Tournament.
Chris "The Cleveland Assassin" Lozano met his homicidal match in cerebral assassin Karl Amoussou. The stoic, shit-talking Frenchman was able to get into Chris Lozano's head with his pre-fight banter. Lozano admitted that the fight had become personal for him, which likely explains why he looked tentative early. And early was all the further this fight went. After getting reversed on the ground, Lozano got caught in a choke and tapped out just over 2 minutes into the opening round.
