BELLATOR 91 RESULTS: Attila Vegh Wins Title from Christian M'Pumbu, Saad Awad KO's Will Brooks - 2/28/13 on Spike TV

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented Bellator 91: M'Pumbu vs Vegh on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 7 of Season 8.

In the 25-minute main event that felt like hours, new Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Attila Vegh mercifully took the title from Christian M'Pumbu, the lowest-ranked world champion of any weight division. M'Pumbu came into this fight off a 16-month layoff and after losing in his last fight to Travis Wiuff in a non-title fight. Back in the Bellator cage for the first time since late 2011, M'Pumbu didn't really seem all that interested in fighting. This one will be among the candidates for Worst Fight of the Year.

Saad Awad and David "The Caveman" Rickels advanced to the finals of the Bellator Season 8 Lightweight Tournament. The dark horse Saad Awad scored his second upset win in a row via knockout in less than a minute. David Rickels needed 15 minutes to put down Jason Fischer for the second time in their semifinal rematch. Coming into this fight, Rickels said he was going to use a big brother strategy against the smaller fighter Fischer, and that is indeed what he did. The hardheaded Rickels outmuscled Fischer and bullied him around the cage to earn a clear-cut decision.

"The Preacher's Daughter" Holly Holm made her Bellator debut on the undercard with a second-round TKO win over Katie Merrill, who was clearly out of her league against the top-ranked professional boxer.

Veteran Bellator bantamweight Ed West stole the show in his preliminary bout against the Bellator-debuting Josh Montoya. West put on a dazzling striking display that ended with a spectacular headkick knockout. Montoya didn't have much to offer in the way of offense, but proved game for over a round and a half before getting caught for the highlight reel finish. A magnificent one-man show by Ed "Wild" West.
