The Legacy Fighting Championship presented Legacy FC 23: Spratt vs Means on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, Texas. The main card aired live on AXS TV.

In the main event, recently released UFC fighter Tim "The Dirty Bird" Means scored a first-round knockout victory over old school MMA fighter Pete "The Secret Weapon" Spratt. After regaining his consciousness, Spratt announced his retirement from MMA and a career that has spanned 48 pro fights over 14-and-a-half years.

In the co-main event, the always exciting Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia found a durable dance partner in Nick "The Ghost" Gonzalez. The two fighters slugged it out for 3 rounds, with Garcia landing hard leg kicks and Gonzalez landing brutal body shots among an assortment of vehement violence. Garcia was able to close the deal with a choke with just 17 seconds left in the fight.

BELLATOR 99 RESULTS: Patricio Pitbull KO's Diego Nunes; Justin Wilcox, Fabricio Guerreiro and Joe Taimanglo Win - 9/13/13

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented Bellator 99: Pitbull vs Nunes on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 2 of Season 9.

Bellator Season 4 Featherweight Tournament winner Patricio "Pitbull" Freire, fellow Brazilian Fabricio Guerreiro, former Strikeforce lightweight and NCAA Division I wrestler Justin "The Silverback" Wilcox, and Guam's "Baby" Joe Taimanglo advanced to the semifinals of the Bellator Season 9 Featherweight Tournament. The semifinal brackets will feature Pitbull vs Guerreiro and Wilcox vs Taimanglo, and should go down at Bellator 103.

In a battle of fortysomething former UFC fighters, Vladimir Matyushenko and Houston Alexander showed the world why they are no longer fighting in the UFC with an actionless stinker. To Matyushenko's credit, he was clearly winning the fight as it went along, so there was no reason for him to take any unnecessary risk against a notoriously hard-hitting opponent. The American Alexander, on the other hand, showed very little urgency or ability to implement any semblance of offense against his Belarusian counterpart. Instead, Alexander seemed to be endlessly searching for that one knockout blow that never came, all the while seemingly cripplingly wary of Matyushenko's wrestling. Matyushenko and Alexander take the 'Worst Fight of the Night' dishonor over prelim fighters Hector Ramirez and Savo Kosic, an inexperienced light heavyweight and Bellator's first fighter from Montenegro, who was in way over his head against the grinding American MMA veteran Ramirez in an equally dull fight.

The highlights of the night were Patricio Pitbull's knockout of former UFC and WEC fighter Diego Nunes, Justin Wilcox's stunning comeback submission win after surviving a series of nearly debilitating low leg kicks from Akop Stepanyan, Blagoi Ivanov's amazing return to MMA action after being comatose from a stab wound to the heart in 2012, and 20-year-old Brazilian phenom Goiti Yamauchi's slick submission win over MMA veteran Musa Toliver.

BELLATOR 98 RESULTS: Alexander 'Storm' Shlemenko Outlasts Brett Cooper to Retain Title in Barnburner on Spike TV - 9/7/13

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented their 9th season premiere, Bellator 98: Shlemenko vs Cooper 2, on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Mohegan Sun Casino Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 1 of Season 9 of Bellator MMA.

In the main event, Bellator Middleweight Champion Alexander Shlemenko successfully defended his 185-pound title with a grueling 25-minute battle with Brett "Fudoshin" Cooper. The two durable Bellator veterans went back and forth for 5 rounds. Despite getting stunned by Cooper a couple of times early in the fight, Shlemenko was the fresher of the two fighters going into the final round. This allowed the Russian to outwork his doggedly tired American opponent during the final stanza to seal the deal on the judges' scorecards.

Mikkel Parlo, Jason Butcher, Brennan Ward and Perry Filkins advanced to the semifinals of the Bellator Season 9 Middleweight Tournament. The semifinal brackets will feature Parlo vs Butcher and Ward vs Filkins. After his loss to Butcher, veteran fighter Giva Santana announced his retirement from MMA. The 41-year-old Brazilian, who dominated Butcher in the first round with his world class jiu jitsu, will continue to compete in BJJ, but his days of getting punched in the face for a living are now over.
