BELLATOR 95 RESULTS: Pat Curran Chokes Out Shamhalaev, Frodo Khasbulaev and Doug Marshall Win Tourneys - 4/4/13

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented Bellator 95: Curran vs Shamhalaev on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Ovation Hall at Revel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 11 of Season 8, and served as the eighth season finale.

Bellator's first season on Spike TV, after moving over from MTV2, started and ended with Bellator Featherweight Champion Pat Curran successfully defending his 145-pound title. Curran fended off tournament winners Patricio "Pitbull" Freire and Shahbulat Shamhalaev, earning a hard-fought split decision nod over Pitbull at the Bellator 85 season premiere, and a stealthy first-round submission victory over Shamhalaev to cap off the season finale at Bellator 95.

Magomedrasul Khasbulaev aka "Frodo" won the Bellator Season 8 Featherweight Tournament with a unanimous decision victory over Mike "The Marine" Richman. Khasbulaev is now positioned in line behind Daniel Straus for a crack at the 145-pound title. Given Straus' recent drug-related legal troubles in Florida, Frodo could find himself in a title fight with Pat Curran sooner rather than later.

Former WEC light heavyweight champion and old school slugger Doug "The Rhino" Marshall defied the oddsmakers for the third straight time to win the Bellator Season 8 Middleweight Tournament. Marshall scored a brutal first-round knockout of Bellator mainstay Brett Cooper to earn a title fight against Bellator Middleweight Champion Alexander Shlemenko. This sure-to-be highly anticipated match-up will pair the heaviest hitter in Bellator's middleweight division in Marshall against the division's most dynamic striker in Shlemenko. Fireworks shall ensue.

BELLATOR 92 RESULTS: MW and FW Finals Set with Brett Cooper vs Doug Marshall, Mike Richman vs Frodo Khasbulaev - 3/7/13

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented Bellator 92: Sandro vs Khasbulaev on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 8 of Season 8.

In the main event, Magomedrasul "Frodo" Khasbulaev used the power of the Ring to overcome his once-mighty adversary Marlon Sandro, who continues to look worse for wear every time he fights. Khasbulaev beat up Sandro for a couple of rounds, and then vanquished him in the third with a series of unanswered punches on the ground.

On the flip side of the Bellator Featherweight Tournament bracket, Mike "The Marine" Richman did his country proud with a solid performance against the dangerous Brazilian Alexandre "Popo" Bezerra. Each fighter shined in their respective strong suit. Richman blooded up Popo's face on the feet with his superior boxing, while the BJJ brown belt Bezerra tooled Richman on the ground for almost the entire first round.

Doug "The Rhino" Marshall and Brett "Fudoshin" Cooper advanced to the finals of the Bellator Middleweight Tournament. Marshall won a strange split decision over Sultan Aliev after getting outstruck and taken down 8 times by the relentless Russian. Aliev's point-scoring style effectively stymied Marshall's usual go-for-broke aggression, but it also produced a lousy fight. This was a textbook example by Aliev of how to win a fight but lose with the crowd – except this time, there appears to have been an emotional coup from within the judging ranks. The one judge not wearing rose colored goggles realistically saw the fight 30-27 for Aliev, while the other two found a way to give Marshall two rounds. An awful decision, but one that produced the most fan-friendly result for the tourney finals.

Bellator mainstay Brett Cooper scored a most excellent come-from-behind knockout victory over Dan Cramer. Likely behind on the scorecards after two rounds, and with more than half of the last round gone, a seemingly cooked Cooper was able to muster up one final hurrah. Cooper staggered Cramer with a wrecking ball of an uppercut, and then finished him off with a couple of big right hands. After Cramer slumped to the ground, an exhausted Cooper used what little energy he had left to make his way back to his corner to have a celebratory seat.
