ONE Fighting Championship presented
ONE FC 5: Pride of a Nation on Friday, August 31, 2012, at the SMART ARANETA Coliseum in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines.
In the main event, former DREAM bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes earned a unanimous decision victory over current CFC 135-pound champion Gustavo Falciroli.
Following their UFC trilogy from years ago, former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia met for the fourth time at ONE FC 5. The fight ended in a controversial No Contest after Arlovski dropped Sylvia with punches and followed up with a couple of grazing soccer kicks, one that landed to Sylvia's head. Kicks to the head of a downed opponent are legal in ONE FC, but they're bizarrely only allowed after the referee has given a verbal go-ahead. In this case, veteran ref Yuji Shimada had not given Arlovski permission, so the kicks were deemed illegal. The fight was waived off after Sylvia was unable to continue following a rest period.
