| WEC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo |
WEC 51: ALDO VS GAMBURYAN was held Thursday September 30, 2010 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado near Denver. The main card aired live on the Versus network.
Jose "Junior" Aldo retained his WEC Featherweight Championship with a stone cold knockout of TUF 5 lightweight finalist Manny "The Anvil" Gamburyan. Aldo used the first round to feel out Gamburyan's offense, and then struck like a cobra in the second round.
Jose Aldo landed a brutal uppercut that dropped Manny Gamburyan and caused him to turtle up. Aldo then violently joined Gamburyan on the ground and left him KTFO. After the fight, Aldo put himself in more danger than he had been in during the entire fight, when he landed awkwardly from a celebratory backflip off the top of the cage.

In the co-main event, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone got the redemption he'd been seeking for the past 21 months in the form of a clean sweep unanimous decision over his archnemesis Jamie Varner. Cerrone put a beating on Varner for three rounds in their lightweight rematch, and shockingly outwrestled the Lock Haven wrestling stand-out.
Donald Cerrone, a former Muay Thai fighter who's been accused of being one-dimensional a time or two, clearly has dedicated himself to becoming a better grappler. Although Cerrone has expressed a deep hatred for Jamie Varner, it's this very hate that has inspired him to become a better fighter. In his post-fight interview, Cerrone offered Varner a rubber match at
WEC 53 in Varner's home city of Phoenix, Arizona.
