BELLATOR 102 RESULTS: Cheick Kongo and Vinicius Spartan Score Knockouts, Rafael Silva Wins Bantamweight Tourney 10/4/13

Bellator MMA Championship Tournaments presented Bellator 102: Kongo vs Godbeer on Friday, October 4, 2013, at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, California. The main card aired live on Spike TV as Episode 5 of Season 9.

Longtime UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo made his Bellator debut with a delightfully destructive second-round TKO of Mark Godbeer in the semifinals of the 4-man Bellator Season 9 Heavyweight Tournament. The other bracket was filled by Vinicius 'Spartan' Queiroz, who one-punch pancaked Lavar Johnson, another former UFC fighter making his Bellator debut. Here's a GIF of Johnson's face-plant by ZombieProphet for BloodyElbow:

Middleweights Mikkel Parlo and Brennan Ward advanced to the finals of the Bellator Season 9 Middleweight Tournament. "The Irish Bad Boy" Brennan Ward scored an impressive come-from-behind submission win over the previously undefeated Joe Pacheco. Mikkel Parlo dominated Jason Butcher in a fight that was not close at all, yet resulted in two 29-28 scorecards. (These scores highlight the flawed nature of the ten-point must system and its implementation by judges in MMA.) The brash Butcher looked uncomfortable standing up from the get-go, clumsily trying for takedowns amidst an awkward striking display. After eating a barrage of uppercuts to end the second round, Butcher came out completely flat in the third round. An exhausted Butcher embarrassingly flopped around the mat to a chorus of boos for the final five minutes of the fight.

Rafael Silva won the delayed Bellator Summer Series 2013 Bantamweight Tournament with a dominant and uneventful unanimous decision victory over Anthony Leone. Silva will now challenge his Brazilian countryman, Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas, for the 135-pound title.

BELLATOR 80 RESULTS: Alexander Volkov and Rad Martinez Advance to HW and FW Tournament Finals on MTV2 - 11/9/12

Bellator Fighting Championships presented Bellator 80: Warren vs Evinger on Friday, November 9, 2012, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The main card of this event (Episode 7 of Season 7) aired live on MTV2.

In the main event, former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren made a successful return to bantamweight against an overmatched Owen Evinger, brother of WMMA star Tonya Evinger. Warren flirted with 135-pounds before, but has now made a permanent move back to bantamweight after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Pat Curran at 145-pounds.

Alexander Volkov advanced to the finals of the Bellator Season 7 Heavyweight Tournament with a last-second knockout of Vinicius "Spartan" Queiroz at the end of the second round. The finish came after referee James Warring, a former pro boxer, inexplicably stood the fighters up from the ground after just mere seconds.

The Rocky Balboa adversary-inspired Russian heavyweight Alexander "Drago" Volkov will fittingly fight American Richard Hale, a real-life Rocky, for the heavyweight tournament title at the Bellator 84 season finale.

Rising star Rad Martinez looked excellent in outpointing MMA veteran Wagnney Fabiano over the course of 15 minutes to advance to the finals of the Bellator Season 7 Featherweight Tournament. Martinez will lock horns with fellow top 145-pound prospect Shahbulat Shamhalaev in the tourney final at Bellator 83.
